lorcet addiction?
ok guys were im form they have pain managment clinics .one of my buddys told me since i was having back trouble to go check one out. i went in told them about my problems and they prescribed me lorcet10/650 and somas along with xanax. now ive been taking xanax for 8 years now around 3 mg a day with out any troubles , my question is is ive been taking these lorcet 10/650 around 2 to 3 a day because overall they just make me feel good.i have since come to the realization that these"pain managment "clinics are really just a legal way to prescribe narcotics. and im wondering what kind of side effects am i looking out if i just want to quit them. ive heard the withdrawels are terrible ,like puking and diarreaha along with stomach cramps. while i dont think my addiction is severe,i do believe there is one there is 3 10/650s a day a lot and what am i looking outg if i quit cold turkey or does anyone have any advice because i cant afford to miss work or be sick an extended period of time
30 mgs of hydrocodone are easy to taper off of. THe reason for these clinics is to treat pain and they use meds to which people get accomodated. They are for the treatment of pain, not to feed addicts. A person can decide that they would rather have the pain than the side effects of medications. So you take the hydrocodone because "they make me feel good". If they don’t help the pain, you should discontnue them slowly. The Xanax is a whole different situation and far more serious. On 3 mg of Xanax a day you are very accomodated and could have seizures (unpredictably occasionally fatal) if you withdraw too quickly and potentially years of protracted withdrawal syndrome. THESE ARE DANGEROUS to withdraw from too quickly. You need a doctor’s assistance for this withdrawal. I can provide you with a withdrawal schedule. Benzobusters.uk can supply you all sorts of information as well as a withdrawal schedule. Good luck.
To taper the lorcets here is a simple way. Cut the pills into quarters. Each 2 days, reduce your dose by a quarter of a tablet. So, day 1-2 the dose is 2.75 tablets, day 3-4 2.5 tablets, day 5-6 2.25 tablets etc. You shouldn’t even feel it. Don’t take more than 2 quarters as a dose at a time and spread them out throughout the day. Don’t go below 4 doses per day until you are down to fewer 1/4 tablet doses than that.

First and foremost, pain management clinics are a legal way to prescribe narcotics because there are people who NEED the pain control. Since you have back trouble I’m sure you understand the feeling of desperation that comes from pain. Second, luckily you are on a rather "small" dose of pain killers in relation to people who are much farther into their addiction. This is good because the withdrawl will be relatively easy compared to someone who takes more opiods than you are. Now I don’t suggest you quit cold turkey because you will experiance W/D’s and you may feel worse then you expected. The best way to do this is 1. talk to your doctor first about getting off the drugs and 2. your doctor will probably have you taper down from the dose you are on now in the next couple of weeks. By tapering down the dosage you will safely get off the medication with less of the withdrawl symptoms. If you aren’t willing to talk to a doctor about this there is one other option and its rather drastic but some people swear by it. It’s called the Thomas Recipe. Type it into yahoo or google and take a look at it. I don’t suggest you do this one but its up to you. Good Luck.

3 10/650 a day is nothing. Taper down 1 pill a day for 3 days and you should be fine. The xanax will help with any (if any) withdraws. Hell, I was taking 400mg of Oxycontin 12 10mg lortabs (same drug) and 4 10mg Valiums a day and quit cold turkey after 6 years of use. Yea, I got sicker than hell but after about 10 days of TV drama like withdraws I was fine.
I would be more worried about getting off the xanax than anything. I heard it’s as bad as methadone to detox from and methadone can take months to detox from.
Get off both if you can.
In case your wondering what Oxycontin is, it is perscription heroine. One 40mg tab is like taking 8 10mg tabs of lorcet at once, and no that’s not a typo, I was taking 400mg’s a day.

Don’t stop taking them cold-turkey, withdrawls are not fun. Talk to your doctor and let him tell you how get off them without any problems. I’ve been in a pain management program for several years and it’s what makes me be able to function.
3 10/650 a day is not a whole lot. I take 10/500 4 a day and have for years. If you are on them for chronic pain make sure to have a blood test every 6 months to see how your liver is doing. It’s the (625) in your meds that is Tylenol.
One side effect you didn’t mention is that you will have trouble sleeping for months

Don’t quit them cold turkey, because even if you don’t experiance withdraw (you havent been taking them long, so it’s not very likely), you will be less likely to stay off of them
Have your doctor prescribe you ultram. (generic: tramadol). It is just as effective as vicodin (or, lorcet, or hydrocodone, lortab..whatever you prefer, lol) and is a NON NARCOTIC pain pill. While it’s still classified as slightly addictive, it’s much less than vicodin. While vicodin is a c3 drug, tramadol is a c2. A much safer route, especially for someone prone to addiction.
If you just quit them at this point, the only thing you will experiance is the desire for more. You havent adjusted your body to their presence this early on.
