My son had surgery?

My one year old son had surgery on Friday and is having an amazing recovery. It was outpatient surgery – he had an extra pinky toe removed from his foot. After we brought him home, he acted like there wasn’t anything wrong. He was walking on it almost immediately, and hasn’t seemed to be in pain at all. We’ve been giving him Motrin and have been skipping the narcotic (oxycodone) he was prescribed because he is acting like nothing happened at all. So my question to all of you is, have you had similar experiences? I am so thrilled with his reaction to all this and am hoping you have happy stories to share, too.

I’m sorry for what happened to your son………

I was born with holes-in-the-heart and had the open heart surgery aged 3, as the youngest child to have that surgery ever. I’m now 18, a Uni student and never felt better. I’m so pleased your son is recovering so well and quickly, it must be a joy to see him running around!

I don’t know if this counts, but I will tell you anyway. When my nephew was maybe 8 months, (he’s 11 months now) my brother was carrying him and slipped on the stairs outside. Well, my nephew (Logan) flew out of his arms and landed on the ground (luckily he missed the cement). Anyway, naturally my brother and SIL took him to the hospital to make sure he was okay (they thought he might have a concussion). Well, his brain was okay, but the doctors found a small fracture in his leg. Everyone thought "Awww…..poor Logan", but sure enough, it didn’t even seem to phse him at all! He was still trying to stand on it (he was just learning at that point). I guess children are pretty risilient huh?

My 5 month old daughter had surgery when she was 3 weeks old then again when she was 6 weeks old. She had langomalicia (not sure how to spell it) they basically and to cut a part of her throat twice because it was too floppy and would block her air way. She was fine after 2 days. It’s a proven fact that kids recover faster then adutls so I’m sure that is why our little ones are doing so well. Good luck!
