What Should Happen to this Mother?
I read a story about a mother who "accidently" killed her daughter. This is just pain stupidity.
The 6 year old girl said she had a headache and when Children’s Motrin did not work, the mother stuck a Fentanyl patch on the child and told her to go to bed. The Fentanyl patch contains oxycodone, morphine, methadone and other narcotic pain relievers. The child died just an hour later in her bed of respiratory distress.
The patch was pescribed to the mother for her severe chronic pain after other pain relievers did not work for her, so she had to of know this was top serious stuff. I wanted to cry when I read this
That is terrible and obviously she should be charged with manslaughter. Ignorance is no excuse, she should have contacted a doctor. It’s common sense that you do not give prescription drugs to anyone they are not prescribed for, nevermind a child!

this just shows that people need education when they have children on how to medicate them!

That’s horrible. I don’t think that mother intentionally killed her child, but she is definitely stupid. I think I’m going to cry and hold my daughter for a while.

Clearly she didn’t read the part that says "Keep away from children". She either didn’t care or wasn’t educated properly about this drug. If it was an act of stupidity then it should be treated differently than an intentional act of harm. I don’t know what her punishment should be, however.
Oh, and the fentanyl patch contains fentanyl. It IS similar to those drugs you listed, however it is its own drug.

Since we are given no details, I would have to say this was an accident due to lack of knowledge and plain old Ignorance…a TRUE Tragedy…There are many warnings on the box of Medications like Fentanyl…she will be charged with possible negligence and manslaughter…but those charges will PALE in comparison to the punishment she will endure in her own head…Poor Woman KILLED her own child and there is no worse Punishment than having to live with that knowledge.

I once suggested my 7 year old take a Sudafed to relieve her stuffy nose and I READ the package first of course, and said for 12 and older.
The mother is a murderer. I hope one day God gives her what she deserves.

this mother should go to jail for the rest of her life…I read the background info about this tragedy and heard the mother was an aide at a hospital…she should have known then that fentanyl would kill that child. I was a hospice aide for 3 years and we gave those to people with severe pain…she was an aide longer and I knew this. And I also read that the cops were called on her a few times for beating that poor girl and the other foster children. CPS is going down the drain and those kids could have been yanked out of her custody way back when the complaints about abuse were made…this could have all been avoided.
