Prayers for pain?
Are there any prayers specifically to ask Allah subha’ana wa ta’ala to relieve one of physical pain? Like severe back pain? I have been on Methadone and Hydrocodone for years due to back problems. I would like to stop taking the heavy narcotics (the Methadone) but my back pain is such that it is impossible to function regularly without it. Any ideas? Could this be a way that Allah subha’ana wa ta’ala is testing my faith and resolve?
Jazak Allah Khair, all of you. You are all the best of mankind, and although we argue amongst ourselves here at times, I appreciate all of you. Allah Hafiz
I seek protection for my soul in the Lord of the earth and the Lord of the heavens I seek protection for my soul in the One in whose name no sickness can hurt I seek protection for my soul in the One whose name is Blessed and a Cure
another dua is:
O God, to Thee belongs praise
for the good health of my body
which lets me move about,
and to Thee belongs praise,
for the ailments
which Thou causest to arise in my flesh!
For I know not, my God,
which of the two states deserves more my thanking Thee
and which of the two times is more worthy for my praise of Thee:
the time of health,
within which Thou makest me delight
in the agreeable things of Thy provision,
through which Thou givest me the joy to seek
the means to Thy good pleasure and bounty,
and by which Thou strengthenest me
for the acts of obedience
which Thou hast given me success to accomplish;
or the time of illness
through which Thou puttest me to the test
and bestowest upon me favors:
lightening of the offenses
that weigh down my back,
purification of the evil deeds
into which I have plunged,
incitement to reach
for repentance,
reminder of the erasure of misdeeds
through ancient favor;
and, through all that, what the two writers write for me:
blameless acts,
which no heart had thought,
no tongue had uttered,
and no limb had undertaken,
rather, as Thy bestowal of bounty upon me
and the beneficence of Thy benefaction toward me
O God,
bless Muhammad and his Household,
make me love
what Thou hast approved for me,
make easy for me
what Thou hast sent down upon me,
purify me of the defilement
of what I have sent ahead,
erase the evil
of what I have done beforehand,
let me find the sweetness
of well-being,
let me taste the coolness
of safety,
and appoint for me
a way out from my illness to Thy pardon,
transformation of my infirmity into Thy forbearance,
escape from my distress to Thy refreshment,
and safety from this hardship in Thy relief!
Thou art gratuitously bountiful in beneficence,
ever gracious in kindness,
the Generous, the Giver,
Possessor of majesty and munificence!

maybe it is a test, but you’ve probably passed because despite your pain you still have faith. praying for relief from pain is part of having faith and therefore passing a test. besides, it’s "Allah the Merciful", right?
I’ll pray for you too.

Yes, I recite three times Surah Naas and Surah Al-Kausar and one time Surah fateha.. read them together and blow on your hands and touch your back. If someone else can do that for you, mush better.
This works…
InshAllah I pray you get a relief… take care of yourself and keep your back warm. Or you can apply some pain killing ointment or a spray, right?
Take care
~!

Narrated by ‘Aisha,
Whenever Allah’s Apostle became sick, he would recite Mu’awwidhat (Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Nas) and then blow his breath over his body. When he became seriously ill, I used to recite (these two Suras) and rub his hands over his body hoping for its blessings.
i will pray for you insha Allah
O Allah! The Lord of the people, the Remover of trouble! Please cure Heal this patient, for You are the Healer. None brings about healing but You; a healing that will leave behind no ailment."
Lord of the people. remove the disease, cure him, for Thou art the great Curer, there is no cure but through Thine healing Power, which leaves nothing of the disease

Besides the answers the other ladies have given you. I would suggest that you detox your body. Eating healthy etc. Eat dates every morning take Apple Cider Vinegar as a tonic and slowly wean off the Methadone.

You have some great answers but I also wanted to say that yes, it could be a test but try to remember that you have sins that are being forgiven every time you feel pain too!
I’ll make du’a for you brother.

Here is a dua
وَبِالْحَقِّ أَنزَلْنَهُ وَبِالْحَقِّ نَزَلَ وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَكَ إِلَّا مُبَشِّرًا وَنَذِيرًا (Bani Israel: 105)
We sent down the (Qur’an) in Truth, and in Truth has it descended: and We sent thee but to give Glad Tidings and to warn (sinners).
Place ones hand on the area where it hurts, recite this ayah three (3) times and blow. Insallah the pain will vanish.

Aside from the four Quls, once can recite this dua: Allahumma ishfi, inta shafi, la shifau illa shifauka, shifun la youghadirus saqama.
Oh Allah, cure me, you are the One who Cures, there is no cure except your cure, a cure without any remnant [of the disease].
Also, one should tie his camel, then pray to Allah for aid, as the Arabs would say. You might want to see a chiropractor, if you haven’t already.

Yes one can ask Allah subha’ana wa ta’ala to relieve one of physical pain. Also Allah (swt) expects one to seek his help in all ways possible as when relief comes insha’allah it comes by way of Allah (swt) anyway and this could be in a way you may not expect necessarily. Have you also thought of trying anything herbal or any alternative therapies? You might like to try glucosamine sulphate and you can find a vegetarian halal version. I have heard many success stories from various people who have taken this. Another good one for lower back pain is bromelain. Also the apple cider vinegar that Jenn recommended is another one worth trying. Others include: Devil’s claw (Latin: Harpagophytum Procumbens) [ http://www.ivillage.co.uk/health/comp/articles/0,,181040_185090,00.html ] , turmeric, cayenne plasters, MSM and arnica gel. There are many alternative therapies worth looking into.
