I was put on Methadone, Oxycodone and Fentanyl all at the same time. How's that for a list of narcotics. I never got addicted to them, I don't think. I am off of the Methadone and the Fentanyl, but still take the Oxycodone. I was very careful about taking only what was prescribed. But, it was very tempting to take more when I was in a lot of pain. I knew better! I can see how easily people can get addicted when these doctors prescribe these narcotics so easily. When he told me he was putting me on Methadone, I almost had a fit., I didn't want to have anything to do with that drug. But, by golly, it sure helped me with the pain. I was on all 3 of those narcotics at the same time for 14 months!
References :
I took it for a while along with a bunch of other numerous medications (narcotic and non narcotic) for my Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, and I never had a problem with with addiction because the medications made me so sick, nausea, headaches, sleepy, dizziness, and other side effects and they only got worse so I decided to quit taking the medications because they didn't even help my pain so luckily I haven't had any problems with addiction. In fact my doctors were vary nervous because after my last spinal cord stimulator surgery I didn't want to slowly wean off of the medications- I just wanted to get rid of them all together all at once, but they wouldn't let me because they were nervous about major withdrawal symptoms, and other problems with doing that type of thing. I'm glad that you were able to get off of the Methadone!
References :
My friend has used methadone for the past 5 years. She is terminally ill and suffers from large tumours wrapped around her bowels. This causes extreme pain. It took about 3 years to get the methadone regulated
( i.v.pump form) but today she is comfortable and able to get through the day. Methadone is powerful and addictive meds. When you truly have intense unbearable chronic pain it relieves it and does not cause a high.
References :
Methadone is VERY addictive. Two and a half years later my brother-in-law is trying his best to get weaned off of it. Has really wreaked havoc on his relationship with my sis and their family and the cost (no ins.) has been a strain as well. All of this because of back surgery that didn't help.
