Dude I am a native american(Metis) I work everyday with native people. Check the Smithonian archives for recordings of aboriginal natives. Look up linguistics and native speakers.
You are a flat out liar if you say you “know” someone who speaks this way. They NEVER have. It is hollywood speak. If you knew AA history and read AA’s explanation of this story you would know it was fabricated to appeal to natives. The morons who put the story together thought like you do. Investigate dude.

Ok, maybe I have not seen it all? I will take that position for thesake of argument. BUT FOR SURE, one thing is true. Up until this very moment, I have never, EVER heard of ANYONE trying to convert ANYONE in to ANY religeon, ZERO. I mean if anyone religeon takes a beating in AA its christianity. People always roll there eyes when someone says Jesus in their share. So this little piece of the Orange Papers is symbolic of all of the Orange papers, its just crap~

From the Orange Papers – AA has an official party line that says you have complete freedom of religion, and you can belong to any religion you wish, or you can have no religion at all. But the truth is that A.A. members will make every effort to convert you to the official A.A. religious beliefs, which are basically the beliefs of Dr. Frank N. D. Buchman and his Oxford Group cult members, William G. Wilson and Dr. Robert Smith. And the Big Book, Alcoholics Anonymous, says so, very clearly.

Maybe that one did speak and write that way. But to imply this is the way AA wanted to present what you call native americans is very uming and way off. Actually I have sat with an ” indian ” so to speak who does to this day speak with a bit of a similar accent though not so exxagerated. Well as for the Orange Papers, it likes like something I would have created in my first 3 years sober. Which means all my exposure to AA at that time I was just looking to build a case against it= dry drunk

Dude. The accent is what makes this story funny. The person who wrote this piece had it in their mind that American aboriginals speak this way. That is the joke. Never ever has a native person spoke this way. You don’t have to be a neuro-linguist to recognize this. Only hollywood indians speak that way.
The “Join The Tribe” story was removed because it was shameful.
As for the orange papers I fail to see what is out of context. I have onlyread a fraction of what is up there so lemme know.

It would be interesting to know whether this story (which clearly embarrassed aa) was a complete fabrication or if it were ghost-written by a rather ignorant WASP who thought it appropriate to write it in “Tontoese”. My guess would be the latter, but it’s only a guess. Did you ever find out, MTBT?

My take on it is …
My take on it is that no, aa is not an explicitly racist organisation, although there are certainly a fair number of the bigoted amongst its membership. Of course it is not unusual in that respect. But I do think it is very patronising in its implicit attitudes. This is shown in its attitude to agnostics,atheists and those of existing religious convictions even more than its unthinking insensitivity to ethnic identity.
