Drugs amongst teens in the 1950s?

Okay so when I usually think of drug abuse amongst high school teenagers in America, I instantly think of the 1960s. But I was wondering if teenagers were abusing anything 10 years earlier (besides cigarettes), and if teens were using drugs in the 1950’s what were they using? Medications? Types of narcotics? Marijuana? I just was wondering because you never here about anything from that time period.

Probably beer and pot.Plus some of the southern kids most likely got into grand dads moonshine.

There weren’t that many drugs to be abused back then. Heroin, pot, seconal, bennies, a few more. But in the 60s they started synthesizing all kinds of stuff. The law used to have to be specific, so every time they banned one drug, somebody would just change one molecule and it would be legal for a short while. Those days are gone, now they just find a Dr. whose pupils seem to be smaller than most.
