Can I get a buzz or a slight "high" from arthrotec? My doctor perscibed these for me for back pain, which makes no sense because I don’t have arthritis, but I don’t want to take anything that will make me feel weird, so are the a narcotic? addictive?
I am an ex opiate user as well and don’t want to fall back into that, but I also don’t want my doctor to know…that’s why I want to know if they are a narcotic, if so I’ll just give them away… I don’t like weed, so I don’t know what to do to get rid of this pain

LOL,,,, they won’t do anything,,, if you don’t know how to find out if something will get you high or not maybe you should be messing with them,,, you’re not going to get any smarter and if you want to get high off those you need to study a little more before messing with anything,, a lot of kids die from taking Rx meds every year,,, is getting buzzed off pain meds worth the risk,,, all you have to do is be allergic,,, you’ll die before they get you to a hospital,,, I’ve seen it!!! I’ve OD’d before,, it’s not fun trust me !!!

Be one of the smart ones,,, don’t depend on Rx’s to get high,, pot is far better and safer,, and cheaper,,, I’ve seen people trying to catch a buzz off opiates ruin their lives,,,, I’m one of them

If all you are after is a ‘slight’ buzz hold your breath until you pass out,, that will give you a slight buzz,,, and you’ll still be alive no matter how much you do it!!

Sorry, change that to "a schedule one narcotic" We didn’t have addictive drugs in my kid’s school. You all get the idea however
Go Army (good nickname by the way) Are you saying home-schooling families don’t live in the real world? I worked my way through University. I didn’t borrow or take a dime from anyone to get where I am today. Nor have any of my family.
By the way, both our kids had jobs after age 14. The oldest is in University. the youngest is a senior in Highschool and taking courses in University.

A big H3LL Yeah!

He is absolutely incorrect. Definitely not all drugs are narcotics. Narcotics are opiates that make up a very small percentage of all drugs. And yes, narcotics can be addictive.

my sister was taking the medication LORTABS for more than an year.now doctors tell her she needs to go cold -turkey as they call it . she has panic attacks & anxietyattacks , sweats and feels nauseaded and hardly doesn’t sleep at nights .she was told by her doctor she would have to stay at the hospital for a week . MY doctor will NOT give them to me no more than a month when i’m in pain cause she says they are addictive and narcotics. why her doctor prescribe them to her for so long , don’t seem right . she wants to quit cold-turkey on her own to avoid hospital stay . can a person do it on their own ? she is diebetic & has heart problems. she also has high blood pressure. i didn’t find out till recently that she was taking them for OVER a year . has anyone gone through this ? I sure could use your help & ideas . thank- you .

In my experience I don’t beleive Lortabs Have the same withdrawl as Other Painkillers. She will experience with drawl. Consisting Of sweats, body pain, diariha, and fatigue. Not to mention the extrem irritability. I suggest she is hospitalized because many people can take seizures and most people end up going back to them even if they have to buy them from the streets. She should get help before she escaletes to Percocet.

TV, Video games, Music, Novels …etc these are all methods of escaping for a brief moment from the stress of the real world. We all use it to unwind, but if abused it can destroy your life.
Like a narcotic escapism can become addictive. Even in it’s absence an addict cannot concentrate on anything else….. But has Escapism had any positive influences in your life?

Yes I believe it has. Almost any activity in our lives can become addictive, however we all need a little escapism, it does help us to unwind. For some people however it becomes the antidote to stress, firstly on a regular basis then onto a permanent basis, this we know as addiction.
Escape into the world of music has helped me, it’s mood changing. A book of fiction has a similar function.
You seem very level headed and understand the consequences of abuse.
Incidentally it is an intelligent question which deserves more intelligent replies than a couple you have received so far. God knows what these point collectors are trying to achieve with their "one word " " thanks for the points " replies, sad little minds !

I have generalized anxiety disorder. I also have emetophobia and depression. Each one of these things FUELS one or both of the other 2.
(use Google or Wikipedia if you don’t know what any of these are.)

So, the problem i am facing is, my fiance’s parents are giving him shit, telling him to ‘get rid of her(me)’ that all i am doing is using him and i am a lazy good for nothing.

The reality is, i panic, a lot. I can’t go to public places very often because of this. i literally can’t breathe and can’t stand up for very long. yes this is serious Yes i have been to a DR. They want to put me on xanax. a highly addictive narcotic.

I, of course, refused that treatment because i have personally known people that have taken Xanax either for a short period, or a long period of time and have had the following:

1.) Major life changes, not always for the better. Mostly personality. The drug seems to make them a completely different person. A lady i knew in my old neighborhood was on xanax for 15 years. before she got on xanax things were going alright (she had mild anxiety, couldn’t ride in a car and became agoraphobic.) till her husband interjected and asked her to go get help. years later, he ended up leaving her several times because "she just wasn’t the same person she used to be… i don’t now what happened (it was the drugs)" He later committed suicide. Some more years later, the same lady ran into financial problems, and was forced to come off her high-dose of xanax too quickly. she had a nervous breakdown and nearly died of heart problems in a rehabilitation facility. I was there at her home with her daughter the day she came home. She was a completely different person. there was a different look in her eyes. She was off the xanax. Her daughter even looked at me and said quietly "She doesn’t look ‘ok’…" The lady then started going off about how her daughter and i had let the house ‘go’ (as in, it was not clean according to her standards, which, it was actually worse before she left. in an effort to make her feel better and have a somewhat different environment when she got home from rehab, i helped her daughter clean up the house and re-arrange and re-decorate.) and cleaning things out of the refrigerator, just random things. yelling, cussing, so on…

I would have never imagined her to be like this, and i had never seen her like this before. it was scary. so i left there, moved away. (not because of her, just because i had to)

now, her daughter tells me frequently that her mother has changed so much. she hates everything and everyone and she doesn’t ever want to be left alone. She is scared to say it, but she almost wants her back on those terrible drugs.

2.) Xanax can kill you if you do not follow directions and abuse it, like 40% of the people who have the prescription for it.

3.) it obviously does not ‘cure’ what ever mental ailment is burdening you. it only masks it for a short while until your body becomes immune to it, causing your DR to raise the dosage….you can see where this is going.

you’re supposed to have therapy of some sort along with these medications to aid in ‘recovery’ That costs money and lots of it. I don’t blame them, i would want to get paid to hear people talk about their lives and help them find a way to solve their problems. The only real problem is the money. I can fight through claustrophobia and sit in a session with a therapist, but i can’t pay for it. Why?

I love to work. I love to help people. i love helping people find solutions to their problems and making them happy. it makes me feel great knowing i have helped someone.

but for 4 years now, i have helped no one. I cannot work around people. soon as someone talks to me, i start feeling it in my throat, my throat closes up and i can’t speak. my chest gets tight and my stomach starts to churn. then i feel immediately as if i will vomit.

how is that going to work at a customer service job? or any job for that matter? Constantly having to excuse myself from work because i am not sure if i am going to throw up or have diarrhea, or just not be able to breathe very well. I know there are jobs that don’t require much customer interaction, i just haven’t found it yet. I have also looked into working from home, which, that’s a complete joke. You can’t work from home unless you have money to start with.

Anyways. my fiance’s parents think i am faking this, and i am a complete joke between them all. (not my fiance)

my question for them is:

Why would i go out of my way to make mine and my future husbands life a miserable hell? (me not working = financial problems = hell.)
Why would i ‘fake’ something like this for 4 FUC KING YEARS, WASTE MY LIFE AND WASTE EVERYONE’S’ TIME.

there is help out there, i just haven’t found it.

any ideas yahoo answers?

sorry so long. If you didn’t read it, don’t reply please. thanks.

Thats probably a good decision to avoid xanax. You are definitely right that meds like that generally don’t cure anything, they just cover up the problem so it can fester, hidden.

Your difficulties with your fiances family should probably be dealt with by him. In laws are notoriously difficult, so just try to be civil. Find something to laugh about (but not in front of them).

My basic suggestion would be, instead of posting this one ridiculously long question that gives a lot of anecdotal information but nothing really useful in finding an answer… post some short comments on a message board like http://www.psychforums.com/forum.html where if someone clicks with your situation they can ask questions and get more info.

There are a lot of anti-anxiety remedies that don’t involve benzos or other controlled substances. Deep breathing is boring, but it has been proven more effective than some rx meds for anxiety.

I don’t understand this at all. Who could want this stuff legalized? Marijuana smokers are 6 times more likely to get lung cancer than tobacco smokers, and marijuana is highly addictive (look at the statistics, more teens are in treatment for marijuana addiction that all other drugs combined). According to studies done by Dr. Gabriel G. Nahas, marijuana can cause irreversible brain damage and destroys brain cells. Why would anyone want this horrible narcotic to be legal?

first of all, weed is not addictive and when it says 6 times more likely…do you know how rare? blunts have no crap in it like cigs do… and i guess you dont go to parties or clubs at all, cause weed makes everything more different and fun. even though weed kills brain cells we are talking about 10 brains out of trillions… and i hope you know cells reproduce by dividing so no problem eh? i blaze since 8th grade and im a ap student in 10th grade, i wrestle on varsity in 140 weight class…im 2nd string full back and all my friends go to parties to have a fun time and sometimes blaze but not all the time. and just to let you know the teens who are in the treatment things are the loser ones that have nothing to do in their life besides staying inside and smoke 10 blunts a day… those are the kids no one likes…
