Sure escapism has positive influences! Reading escapist literature stimulates the imagination. TV, though only good in moderation, allows for one to more clearly picture outlandish things. Video games get a lot of rap for causing violence but they’re a good way to relax and acheive short-term goals (read: ego boosting) Music, on the playing end, is hardly escapist unless you’re, like, Yo Yo Ma or Mark Holland. On the listening end, music is both soothing and stimulating. I find that it helps me concentrate on things and approach them in a more logical way.
Writing (and I speak as a writer) is another form of escapism. I write almost solely for my own pleasure, even if my plots aren’t original and my characters flat.
The world sucks, I won’t argue that. That’s why we have escapists in the first place: because it’s so bad not you’re reading, seeing, or writing about someone else’s sucky life.

There are the dangerous forms of escapism like drugs excessive drinking etc But there are positive and relaxing forms of escapism like meditation, reading, music. I like many people have a hectic life so just having some time alone in my bedroom to read, watch a film or even lie quietly is escapism for me!

Yes I believe it has. Almost any activity in our lives can become addictive, however we all need a little escapism, it does help us to unwind. For some people however it becomes the antidote to stress, firstly on a regular basis then onto a permanent basis, this we know as addiction.
Escape into the world of music has helped me, it’s mood changing. A book of fiction has a similar function.
You seem very level headed and understand the consequences of abuse.
Incidentally it is an intelligent question which deserves more intelligent replies than a couple you have received so far. God knows what these point collectors are trying to achieve with their "one word " " thanks for the points " replies, sad little minds !

If it weren't for escapism, there wouldn't be anything other than work, school, and family to talk about. Personally, I favor reading. I can't stress how much reading a good book can provide tons of insight.

Stress affects people in different ways. Each of us has to find a way to relieve the burden of a stressful life. Myself I like to crossdress as a woman as a form of escapism. You may find it hard to believe that I am a straight hetrosexual and prefer women, but this is normally the case with crossdressers. I am quite confident in going out in public and acting as a woman and have done so for many years. The only problem is that it is so addictive but at least it is drug free and there are no nasty drug side effects. I like seeing life from both sides of the coin as a man and as a woman. I see it as a positive influence and just makes me more appreciative of women and their lives.

I seriously escape at Glastonbury Festival.
I am 39 years old but I party like I am 18 for 5 days in June.
The human mind needs a pressure valve and to let go once in a while is definitely a positive influence.
My brother-in-law was a very stressed out individual.
Since I have taken him to Glasto he is a changed man, for the very much better.
Music is a very good tonic for the system when you are listening to it with 150,000 other like minded people in a field in Somerset.

yes…Tv,video games and novels can be teaching tools and help memory….also these ecapes are better then drugs ,gambling and booze
