All of these drugs can be very addictive and should only be used under the supervision of a doctor and for only a short amount of time. Narcotics are a class of drugs that are highly controlled and contain opiates. Some examples: Morphine, Oxycontin, oxyconde, dilaudid, percocet, vicodin and fentanyl. These drugs are only available through a prescription, and are only used when you have chronic pain or post-operative pain. Drugs like advil and tylenol are considered NSAIDs(non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) and are available over the counter. I'm not going to go into all the different drug classes, but narcotics are the most controlled group and they can also be very addicting.
