Where can someone go for medical advice on recreational drug use.?

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

I am a certified pharmacy technician with a large amount of knowledge on prescription medications of all kinds; everything from diabetes care to erectile dysfunction.

I am also an active member of NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws)

Also I believe that there can be a healthy relationship between the many scheduled recreational drugs and today’s society.
The other day at work I was asked if a patients medications would interact with certain psychedelic and narcotic drugs he uses socially and for recreation purposes.
Not knowing myself and my pharmacist not being allowed to answer such questions I consulted our databases and books.

We had nothing on such information. So what I am looking for is a place someone (including myself) can go to get the information necessary to safely use recreational drugs. Most mainstream drugs do not have many interactions of people who did not know the effects of alcohol on alprazolam and other benzo-diazipates. Another interaction we see is ADHD medication like Ritalin and caffeine cause insomnia.

There are thousands of ways drugs can interact negatively and cause severe permanent damage to the user, both medically and recreationaly.

I want to find a place to help responsible recreational drug users and educate them in ways to protect them from the dangers that they may run into.

Does anyone know of such a place. I get a lot of my information from Erowid but I am looking for something that you can talk one on one, detect the problems of abuse and addiction before the damage is done and help those who are already that far in.

Any Ideas?

good question.

i doubt that there is anyone out there that would honestly answer your questions.

Anyone involved in addiction\recovery or any other aspect of the drug industry will likely be anti recreational drug use. You cannot rely on these people to speak the truth…

Besides Erowid there is http://www.bluelight.ru , a message board for recreational drug users. I haven’t really gone there for years, but if u want to know about interactions between prescription meds and recreational drugs every question under the sun has been asked there…

Should Government assistance be labeled a class 5 narcotic due to it’s highly addictive nature?

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Oxford, No, I’m not home-schooled but my kids are. They are both in University at the moment. By the way, is Oxford still the hospice for intelligence?

Sorry, change that to "a schedule one narcotic" We didn’t have addictive drugs in my kid’s school. You all get the idea however
Go Army (good nickname by the way) Are you saying home-schooling families don’t live in the real world? I worked my way through University. I didn’t borrow or take a dime from anyone to get where I am today. Nor have any of my family.
By the way, both our kids had jobs after age 14. The oldest is in University. the youngest is a senior in Highschool and taking courses in University.

A big H3LL Yeah!

Do. Lawmakers who push all forms of federal assistance and social program addiction need to be treated lie any other pusher of addictive substances?

For the families that have made it a generational institution YES.

Drugs amongst teens in the 1950s?

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

Okay so when I usually think of drug abuse amongst high school teenagers in America, I instantly think of the 1960s. But I was wondering if teenagers were abusing anything 10 years earlier (besides cigarettes), and if teens were using drugs in the 1950’s what were they using? Medications? Types of narcotics? Marijuana? I just was wondering because you never here about anything from that time period.

Probably beer and pot.Plus some of the southern kids most likely got into grand dads moonshine.

How many days after getting a narcotic filled can you get the 1 refil?

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

i was given a codeine cough surup with 1 refill, today is the fourth day and i have no more left. Dont you have to wait a certain number of days before they can fill it again? is it 5 days?

it depends on how your doctor wrote the RX when you can get your refill. If he wrote for let’s say 120 ml, and you take 1 teaspoon (5 ml) every 4-6 hours, that is 30 ml per day you should be using. So the pharmacy would have entered your supply as 4 days worth, so you could get it on day 5.

What causes heart rate and blood pressure drop?

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Withdrawal, Marijuana, Narcotics, or Alcohol?
Umm you really didnt answer my question though which of those 5 is it?
Or is it depressants???? Someone help me pleaseee and fastt! Would really appreciate it! ):

It is narcotics. Narcotics will also produce pinpoint pupils. I am not sure why you are asking this. If you are concerned about yourself or someone else having low blood pressure or pulse, please take this person the ER. Marijuana can decrease blood pressure, but it usually is associated with an increase in heart rate. Alcohol may acutely lower blood pressure, but can lead to high blood pressure if used chronically. Alcohol does not really affect pulse. There is no withdrawal syndrome associated with decreased blood pressure or pulse.

Methadone, back pain, pregnancy?

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

I asked a question bout my sister, and would up getting a lot of responses from people who work with heroin addicts. So, please read everything first. My sister got sciatica with her first child, so bad that she gets "stuck" when she lies flat on her back and every way she moves causes really horrible nerve spasms. She wound up on methadone (doc was eventually investigated by govt for prescription fraud!) and desperately wanted off, but found out the hard way that she can’t just stop. So she began to detox from 60 mgs, then got accidentally pregnant at 35 mgs. Decided rather than just abort to continue, with an OB-GYN’s approval, to continue detox (2mgs per week). So far, so good, down to 16 mgs. But she’s nervous if her baby will have any harm from this, most docs say things should be okay, but it’s a drug! Also, her sciatica is getting bad again, and she gets "stuck" now in positions that used to be okay. Has anyone detoxed and had baby? How can back be helped w/o narcotics?

Her doctor should NOT have prescribed her Methadone as a painkiller for her back. Methadone is extremely addictive, as you can tell from her withdrawls, and that is why even herion addicts are being prescribed a new, not as addictive, medication known as Suboxone (still addictive, but not nearly as much as Methadone).
Your sister will have to continue lowering her dosage of Methadone or it could cause serious health problems if she just completely stopped taking it.
Studies have shown that if a woman is pregnant and taking Methadone then the medication is quickly metabolized into the body and is out just as fast as it is in so the baby is most likely not getting much of the medicine if any.
She needs to just continue with the lowering her dosage and she and the baby should be fine.
Definitely have her find another doctor though because the doctor was wrong to prescribe Methadone for her back.
The only safe medication she can take for her back is Tylenol, unless another doctor prescribes her something else that is safe while pregnant.

My husband is in rehab… I had no clue.?

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

My husband was admitted to a rehab facility 60 miles away from me on Friday after walking to his unioon representative and telling them he had a problem. I had no idea but he had been taking xanax that was prescribed by a doctor since august, was taking them before that by getting them off the streets and has been on prescription pain killers (i knew that) for about a year but he runs out about 2 weeks early and gets them off the street. He has had an emtional relationship with another woman for the last 2 months through text messaging… all kinds of stuff is coming out now that he is there. I am going to an al-anon meeting locally on thursday but am having a really hard time finding support for people with family members who are abusing narcotic prescription drugs. Does anyone know of any online resources?? I live in Indiana…

we have a 2.5 year old and she asks me every night to send her daddy in there to tell her good night. THis is so hard… I am lost and dont know what to do. Our christmas tree is up in the attic so someone is supposed to be coming over to get it down but its going to be hard putting it up without him. Thats his favorite part… He will be gone for a month
i wish there were something someone could do…

A lot of times people have to hit rock bottom to snap them back to normal. Good for you for sticking by him!
I live in Indiana too but, I don’t know of any on line sources for drug rehab.
My blog might help you with marriage rehab though. http://www.back2gether.com

What is the most dangerous and addicting narcotic?

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

Besides tobacco.
Tobacco is a drug. Just because it’s legal doesn’t mean it’s not a drug.

Crack
