What is Omnicef? And is it addictive?

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

My Mom is addicted to Narcotics fo 15 years (I’m 14) but {LONG story short} I called the cops on her,April 27,08, which made her stop about 3 months ago.
And today on my supervised visit with her, pills fell out of her purse. she said it was my baby sister’s antibiotics. But when I tried to take it from her she said it was hers and that it’s an antibiotic. But what exactly IS an antibiotic for? and I NEED to know… is it addictive?

Omnicef is a type of cephalosporin, an antibiotic used to treat infections. Omnicef is used to treat skin infections, pneumonia, and can treat other type of infections (urinary tract infections). It is not addictive and the patient must take all of the prescribed antibiotics or risk causing a treatment failure or developing resistance to that antibiotic. Addictive drugs are morphine, codeine, hydrocodone, oxycodone, valium, xanax, cocaine, etc.

Is it for pain or is it for opiate withdrawal? What is the difference between this & methadone; and if he is taking it to help get off other pain meds is he just exchanging one addiction for another

It is primarily for opiate withdrawal. He is exchanging one addiction for the other but if he is obtaining these legally from a doctor he is on a regiment to wean off I assume.

Suboxone is safer than Methadone in short because it’s pharmaceutical properties grant it the gift of a person taking it without an issue of a overdose leading to respiratory depression. Methadone levels rise and rise, Suboxone only goes so far.

To put it in simple terms the drug works half way of the way Methadone works in potency, there is much more to it than this but it is safer.

As far as weaning off they say suboxone is taper friendly, this is dependent on the person.

If he is getting this from a doctor he is a hell of a lot better getting this than trying to obtain pain meds illegally.

Should I have a knee replacement? see details.?

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

I was in a bad car accident when I was 13. I have had numerous operations to repair damage, one of which was done incorrectly and has given me pain for the last 17 years. I have been on narcotics on and off for 17 years ( I suffer from migranes as well from an anestesia reaction) My doctor (whom I do trust, I’ve been seeing him for about 12 years) reccomends a full knee replacement, but I’m afraid to go through with it. Had I done it when they first reccomended it I’d be on my 3rd replacement. now they have knee replacements designed for women, and they last 15-20 years on average. How do I get over this fear of surgery? I really would like to be nearly pain free for some of my adult life, but I recently had my Gall Bladder removed and had to be sedated before I was brought into the surgery center, I was having massive panic attacks. I’ve even seen a psychiatrist. Any suggestions? Is the replacement surgery and recovery a good or bad experience?

The basis for the decision on knee replacement is on two factors – the anatomy of the knee and the level of existing function.
There are people with a lot of wear and tear on the cartilage who don’t have problems with pain or mobility – though the anatomy would say they need surgery, their level of function is good and pain isn’t a problem – no surgery necessary.
Get an opinion from an Orthopedic Surgeon, and a second opinion doesn’t hurt either.
The important thing is to be an active participant in the rehab they give you after the knee replacement for the best outcome.
The question about the anxiety is a different matter. Lots of people do better with sedatives prior to surgery. But if the panic attacks are showing up in other parts of your life, you need to work with your Psychiatrist on getting it under control.

Methadone, back pain, pregnancy?

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

I asked a question bout my sister, and would up getting a lot of responses from people who work with heroin addicts. So, please read everything first. My sister got sciatica with her first child, so bad that she gets "stuck" when she lies flat on her back and every way she moves causes really horrible nerve spasms. She wound up on methadone (doc was eventually investigated by govt for prescription fraud!) and desperately wanted off, but found out the hard way that she can’t just stop. So she began to detox from 60 mgs, then got accidentally pregnant at 35 mgs. Decided rather than just abort to continue, with an OB-GYN’s approval, to continue detox (2mgs per week). So far, so good, down to 16 mgs. But she’s nervous if her baby will have any harm from this, most docs say things should be okay, but it’s a drug! Also, her sciatica is getting bad again, and she gets "stuck" now in positions that used to be okay. Has anyone detoxed and had baby? How can back be helped w/o narcotics?

Chances are that the withdrawal from Methodone might actually be worse than what the drug itself could do to the baby. I would imagine that as she’s being weaned off, so the baby would be weaned off. Whether there would be any physical affects on the fetus I’m not sure.

However, there is a terrific website that can answer everything you need to know. It’s called Methadone Support Org and it’s aimed at pregnancy and methadone. It has a forum where you can post your questions and be answered by people in the know.

Good luck to your sister and the baby!

My brother got arrested for drugs, what do I do? I mean, i’m afraid to be in the same HOUSE with him!?

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

He got really mad when he knew that his parents knew, in about 20 seconds he called the police, took the sim card out of his cell phone, went into his room and got all of his money, and went outside to wait on the police. He was high then. What had happened was that my dad was making a statement, not literal, but he said, " If you bring drugs into this house again, i might have to kill you." That’s when he freaked out. He has gotten in trouble before and we have taken him to at least a hundred Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Yet he still hasn’t changed. We won’t pay his bond because we think that the drugs will take control of him and he might do something he will regret doing. BTW, the drugs were some kind of pills and pot.
He is 17 and has already been in rehab… It didn’t work

He doesn’t think he has a problem. He thinks everyone else is the problem.
All the narc-anon and stuff is a waste of time until he realizes he needs help.

All gel-heads eventually steal from family, or will talk about the family house while they are stoned at a party and the local hoods will rob the place. Please tell your parents about this fact… it came into play when my own brother was doing this. Nothing rivals the shock of coming home to a ransacked & robbed house.

I would suggest that you and your parents spend some money on a good deadbolt locks for your bedroom doors. Your parents also need to turn their closet into a safe with another deadbolt lock and reinforcement on the door frame. They need to have one hand-gun in that closet where they can get to it, but anything else needs to be wrapped and hidden in the attic.
An alarm system would also be in order.

I have been taking morphine for back pain for 5 years. My doctor says I can take it indefinitely .?

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

What are the side effects of long term use of narcotic pain medications. Like for example , heart, bones, brain function. I am worried about premature aging. I would like to detox off the morphine but my doctor does not support me. I’m only 55.

I’ve been on morphine for chronic pain for 7.5 years. It has helped give me a life back. Morphine is a natural substance from the opium poppy. It is generally genntle on the body. The only side effects I have after 7.5 years are a little short duration onset nausea, dry mouth and a tendency to constipation if I don’t eat properly. It does not shorten lifespan. There is considerable anecdotal evidence that it protects agains colds and maybe flu to some extent.

An opioid can reduce hormone levels. I take testosterone shots once a week to bring mine up to normal and it helps me feel vastly better. Morphine is a CNS depressant and can reduce energy a bit. Morphine has no apparant effect on lifespan nor does it cause any significant ill effects for most people taking as directed. Severe constipation can be lifethreatening and require a trip to the hospital for manual disimpaction. Eat a high fiber diet with lots of fresh fruits, vegatables and whole grain bread and baked goods. White flour is quite dangerous in terms of causing constipation on morphine. I just had a friend make that mistake (fake whole wheat bread, white bread with caramel color and less whole wheat than sugar) and she came within 1 day of a trip to the hospital for disimpaction.

Morphine taken orally as directed by doctors does not have all the dangerous effects of injected opioids (mostly heroin), dirty needles, overdose deaths and all that crap of addiction. That is a result of ADDICTION, not taking morphine medicinally. Be care reading websites that mix up the two; start out talking about morphine and then tell you all the problems caused by being addicted. On the whole morphine is much safer than acetominephen, asprin or ibuprofen as far as long term detrimental effects or outright causing deaths. I am 59 now. Tapering off of morphine is easy in the absence of pain. A person in pain can taper at about 2.5% per day without pain brightening or other withdrawal effects. Unfortunately the pain does come back.

is schizophrenia actually an abuse of being poisoned with Narcotic like drugs and home brewed poisons?

im serious!

the gift of prophecy is every factual account of God or the spirit of God proclaiming the world of God.

but there is another biblical account of the peope of sodom and gomorah suffering from vexation(s) of speech. i think this also is equal to schizzophrenia but is caused by the practice(s) of witchcraft and sorcery. Pharmecutical poisoning.
reading Dr ann blake traceys’ book on prosac, shizophrenia is an adverse reaction to drug induced halicinations and many other mental illness.

people do not know, doctors do not know. tests results are lied about and many other things i cannot recite for lack of space.

drugs can induce hypnotism and mesmerisation and even mind control. mental illness is caused by people who practice black arts and poison and mind control

dont no, i agree with you, but the other 2 of me disagree, now were arguing and its your fault, i reckon if your not in your mind your at grace with god. if you are in your right mind then you are at grace with yourself.

War on Drugs: What Side is Our Country On?

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

Ronald Reagan, our president, pursued a war on drugs.

With Black Eagle and Supermarket, the CIA (under George Bush) secretly supplied weapons to the Contras in Nicaragua in contravention of congressional strictures.

In Black Eagle, Israeli stocks of captured PLO weapons were moved from Texas to Central America by means of General Noriega`s network of hidden airstrips in Panama… Instantly grasping that drug pilots would be sitting at the cockpits of the empty planes for the return flights, Noriega alertly filled the void by arranging for them to carry narcotics. The CIA, of course, was buying the gas, as well as protecting the whole operation against the impious meddling of law enforcement organisations.

A child might say this put the US Government in the cocaine trade – that is, in the War on Drugs, but on the wrong side.

What side are our leaders on in the War on Drugs?

WAR? There’s a war?

Is there anyone that has been taking narcotic pain medication for more than two years willing to have a dialog?

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

I have been on narcotic pain meds for 8 years now. I am 56 yo. The drugs have helped me a great deal but I don’t like the sexual side effects. I don’t have a moral thing against narcotic pain meds. Its just the sexual thing. I happen to enjoy sex and don’t like living without it. Anyone out there have similar experience? can we chat?

well I have been the victim of a narcotic pain med user for 2 going on three years now. and from having sex 4-5 times per week to 4-5 times per year is a terrible thing is this really due to taking pain meds?

Can dogs used to find narcotics become addicted to the drugs they’re trained to find?

Sunday, August 30th, 2009

The police use dogs to find illegal drugs. I wonder if the dogs can become addicted. Like that episode of Family Guy where Brian worked for the police and became addicted to cocaine.

NO.

The dogs are not addicted to the drugs. When training a dog for search, they ussually need a dog that has a high ball-drive. They put trace amounts of the scent on the ball, and then hide the ball.. when the dog finds the ball, he gets a game of fetch as a reward.

The dog learns to associate that particular smell with the ball. This training works for both drugs and for search and rescue.

The dog may be addicted to a tennis ball, but not to the drugs.

Funny that this question is based off a cartoon show.. remember that Brian also talks and is an alchoholic.
